Description

Set of 9 framed architectural prints; reproductions of original plates from the highly influential “Regola delli cinque ordini d’architettura” (Rules of the Five Orders of Architecture) by the Italian Renaissance architect Giacomo Barozzi da Vignola (1507-1573).

Vignola’s work, first published in 1563, became a primary textbook throughout Europe for standardizing the five classical architectural orders (Tuscan, Doric, Ionic, Corinthian, and Composite).

These prints were widely circulated and re-published across Europe to teach architectural students and builders about classical proportions and ornamentation. It has been called “the most widely used architectural textbook of all up to the nineteenth century,” and its principles formed one of the universal bases of architectural courses.

Plates numbers included in this set: 20, 21, 24, 27, 30, 32, 33, 36
